Biography
Heather A. Fig, partner, is an attorney practicing primarily in Suffolk and Nassau County Family and Supreme Courts. Heather is a former Assistant District Attorney from Kings County (Brooklyn, NY), where she prosecuted misdemeanor and felony criminal actions. For years, she has maintained an active litigation practice, focusing mainly on divorce and family law. Heather is also a member of the “Attorney for the Child” panel of New York State and the 18B panel of Suffolk County. As such, she is appointed by judges in both Family and Supreme Court to represent children and adults in many types of matters, including, but not limited to: custody, visitation, neglect, abuse, divorce and child support matters. She is a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association as well as a certified mediator.
Heather’s broad experience in litigation enables her to fight for your rights and needs in a professional and effective manner without wasting your time and legal fees. If your case requires a trial in order to reach the desired result, quickly selecting a trial date will be the most effective and efficient way to resolve your case. This will save you time and legal fees in the long run because you will not waste time in fruitless negotiations. Ms. Fig has such extensive trial experience that she has no apprehension in setting a date for trial if that is what is in your best interests. Likewise, her experience as a mediator enables her to reach resolutions with adversaries that can be most beneficial to you. She has particular and specialized knowledge of the legal issues you must address, the “pitfalls” you may encounter in the court system, and how the great majority of these pitfalls can be avoided with the right legal counsel.
Heather strives for the one-on-one attorney-client relationship that is often lost at bigger firms while maintaining a competent staff to assist her in meeting your legal needs. She will listen to your concerns and needs in order to customize a litigation strategy that will best achieve your goals. Many attorneys will take advantage of a client who is relying on them to guide them through the divorce/separation process. Advocating zealously to protect clients’ rights while only providing and charging for necessary legal services is her main objective.
